Naperville Park District issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.
The community is invited to drop off their Halloween pumpkins for composting. Naperville Park District staff and volunteers will assist with the event, which is part of a network of pumpkin collections coordinated by SCARCE, a local environmental organization.
The 2018 Pumpkin Smash is a free event. Leftover Halloween pumpkins will be weighed, smashed and composted directly into the soil at the Park District’s Garden Plots, adding nutrients for next year’s growing season. Please remove candles and decorations before dropping off your pumpkin.
The 2018 Pumpkin Smash will take place Sat., Nov. 3 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, located at 811 S. West St. in Naperville.
