A political action committee backing state Rep. Peter Breen (R-Lombard) is criticizing his challenger, Terra Costa Howard, for using "disgusting lies" in her advertising.
An ad by Liberty Principles PAC says Howard's attempts to associate Breen with "accused sex predators" amount to "character assassination" and a "hit" orchestrated by House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), who is largely funding her campaign.
Liberty's ad features a CBS 2 Chicago story by political reporter Derek Blakley calling Howard's claim a lie.
"Terra Costa Howard proved she'll use the most disgusting lies to get elected, the ad says. "Which is exactly what disqualifies her."
"You're better than this." the ad says.
According to the Illinois State Board of Elections, Madigan has given Howard $320,573 for her campaign this year. She has raised $8,950 from 17 in-district individual donors.
Breen, Republican of Lombard, is a constitutional attorney first elected in 2014. Howard, of Glen Ellyn, is also a lawyer and former school board member.
The 48th District includes parts of Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lisle.
Daniel K. Proft, Chairman of Liberty Principles PAC, is also a principal at Local Government Information Services, which publishes DuPage Policy Journal.
