Aurora State House candidate Karina Villa received another $77,967 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Aug. 15 and Sept. 6, state filings show.
The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends of Karina Villa, the campaign committee that supports Villa’s race against Republican Tonia Khouri in the 49th district.
The district covers all or part of Elgin, Bartlett, Wayne, St. Charles, West Chicago, Batavia, Naperville and Aurora.
Madigan’s contributions to Villa came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $203,365 to the candidate’s campaign.
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 6, Madigan spent $2.67 million backing campaigns for 31 candidates. He's spent more than $100,000 on 12 candidates and more than $40,000 on 18.
