CITY OF WEST CHICAGO: Roadway and Water Main Rehabilitation Project

Award

City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on July 30.

The purpose of this newsletter is to inform you that on Monday, July 16, 2018, the City of West Chicago awarded the Roadway and Water Main Rehabilitation Project (Pomeroy, Stimmel, Weyrauch, Lester, and Hazel) to A. Lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc. Based upon a preliminary schedule provided by A. Lamp Concrete Contractors, construction is anticipated to begin the week of Monday, August 13, 2018. The anticipated project completion date is the week of December 3, 2018, weather permitting.

A description of the project’s main scope of construction work is provided below:

  • Weyrauch Street, between Lester Street and Brown Street: Complete roadway reconstruction, new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk, and new storm sewer installation. No work will occur south of Lester Street at this time.
  • Weyrauch Street, between Brown Street and Blair Street: Pavement milling and resurfacing, installation of new sidewalk as well as existing sidewalk removal and replacement, concrete curb and gutter removal and replacement, and installation of new street lights between Brown Street and Ann Street.
  • Pomeroy Street and Stimmel Street, both between Wood Street and Joliet Street: Pavement milling and resurfacing, concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk removal and replacement, installation of new water main, and replacement of residential water service lines.
  • Lester Street and Hazel Street, both between Weyrauch Street and Joliet Street: Pavement milling and resurfacing, concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk removal and replacement.
For the entire project areas, work will also include, but is not limited to, earth excavation, parkway landscaping, sidewalk ramp ADA panel installation, thermoplastic pavement markings and all incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the project. The net length of improvements within the subdivision is approximately 2,734 feet (0.52 miles).

For the streets identified above, daytime on-street parking will not be allowed during construction.  During construction activities, street access may be limited with driveway access periodically being restricted.  If driveway access is restricted, street parking will be permitted for those residents affected by driveway construction. Please obey all other local parking restrictions and signage.  Please notify the City’s police department via 911 or submit an on-line request at http://westchicago.org/overnight-parking/ if overnight street parking is required at your residence during construction.

In addition, water services may be interrupted for residents located on Pomeroy Street and Stimmel Street, both between Wood Street and Joliet Street.  If water services are scheduled to be interrupted, City notices will be delivered in person or taped to the front door of the affected residents at least 48-hours in advance of the interruption. Water service interruptions are not planned to last longer than 4 hours. Please note that all construction activities are scheduled between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday. No construction will occur on Sundays or holidays.

If you have any privately owns items within the City Right-of-Way (ROW) along the street noted above, including but not limited to, landscape items, buried dog fences, sprinkler systems, etc., please remove and/or clearly identify these items prior to the start of construction so the contractor is aware of their presence. The City’s ROW typically extends from the center of the roadway to one (1) foot beyond the edge of City sidewalk (one (1) foot past the sidewalk as you face towards a residential house). Please note that neither the City nor the contractor is responsible for any damage done to privately owned items located within the City ROW.

Residential waste-collection services affected by the construction will be coordinated between the Project Manager referenced below and Groot Industries, Inc. (the City’s waste collection contractor).  Any changes to the current waste collection schedule will be made available to the public via newsletter and mailed to the residents.

Mail delivery service by the United States Postal Service (USPS) is not anticipated to be disrupted and the USPS will be informed about the upcoming construction. If you feel that your mail delivery service is disrupted, please contact the Project Manager referenced below.

Traffic control signs will be posted prior to and during construction notifying residents of the proposed construction and/or detour routes.

As the work progresses, the City will update you on the project’s status.  Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update.  If you should have any questions regarding the Roadway and Water Main Rehabilitation Project (Pomeroy, Stimmel, Weyrauch, Lester, and Hazel), please contact:
