College of DuPage (COD) Board of Trustees Chairman Deanne Mazzochi has been chosen to replace state Rep. Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale) in the 47th House District seat.
“Deanne Mazzochi is a fiscally-responsible reformer dedicated to taxpayers and we’re excited to send her to Springfield early,” DuPage County GOP Chairman Brian Krajewski said in a press release. “As COD Chairman, she helped turn around the scandal-plagued community college. Thanks in large part to her leadership, it is now back on track as one of the best educational resources for our area.”
Mazzochi has a record of reform including removing ineffective administrators, balancing a multi-million dollar budget, cutting property taxes and lowering tuition costs for students, according to the release.

Bellock was recently appointed the director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. She announced last year that she would be vacating the House seat. Bellock has served in the Illinois House since 1999.
Mazzochi ran unopposed in the March 20 primary for the 47th House District for November’s general election. She expressed gratitude for the appointment and noted that constituents have already contacted her about a number of issues.
“Residents already have reached out to me on issues ranging from O'Hare and Tollway expansion, redistricting, property taxes, budget, and social services,” she said in the release. “I'm excited to get started and direct my energy and experience learning and listening to find creative ways to help this district, and to advocate for good policy during the November legislative veto session.”
Mazzochi will finish Bellock’s term, which ends in January, and will seek election to the position in November. She is running against Democrat James Caffrey.
Mazzochi, who was born and raised in Villa Park, is a graduate of Boston University and George Washington University. She lives in Elmhurst with her husband and two children, who attend Elmhurst public schools.
The 47th District includes all or parts of Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Westmont and Western Springs.
