Glenside FPD responds to 74 fires in 2017

Glenside Fire Protection District responded to 511 calls in 2017 - 2.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Glenside included 74 fires - 45 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 25 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $55,560 in fire loss - or about $751 per fire.

The department also received 434 false calls, including six malicious calls and 428 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Glenside Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $6,983,181 in 2017.

The Glenside FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $739,197 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,856 for every fire in 2016.
