City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on May 29.
The West Chicago Police Department is participating in several fundraising events in support of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
Officers got started by staking out the rooftops of three Dunkin’ Donuts locations in West Chicago on May 18, 2018 and raised over $5,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.
On June 7, 2018 they will be co-hosting a special evening with the Kane County Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field as the Cougars battle the Peoria Chiefs. The Department’s Honor Guard will present the Colors prior to the start of the game. Officers will be accepting donations and selling Law Enforcement Torch Run merchandise and raffle tickets which benefits Special Olympics Illinois. A limited number of reserved seats have been made available with special pricing for this game. Those interested may contact Det. Robbi Peterson at (630) 293-2234 for additional details.
Next, on Saturday June 9, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., officers will host a Sign and Drive event at Haggerty Ford. For each driver 18 years of age or older who takes a test drive in a new Ford at Haggerty Ford, Ford Motor Corporation is going to donate $20 to Special Olympics Illinois, with no obligation or purchase necessary. There will also be live DJ music and free giveaways while supplies last.
Finally, the Law Enforcement Torch Run will pass through West Chicago on Sunday, June 10, 2018 beginning around 7:45 a.m. at City Hall and will head west onto Wilson Street and south on Joliet Street. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the movement’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, raising more than $4.4 million in Illinois during 2017.
Last year, law enforcement officers across the State carried the Flame of Hope and volunteered to support more than 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 20,000 athletes ages 2 to 7 with and without intellectual disabilities and their families.
