CITY OF WEST CHICAGO: Kick-off the 2018 Special Events Season at Blooming Fest by Creating a One West Chicago Symbolic Community Garden

City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on May 1.

It’s spring and the sun is shining a spotlight on West Chicago as the City launches its One West Chicago initiative. One West Chicago is a call to action to broaden participation in community leadership, invest in long-term relationships and form partnerships with all members of the West Chicago community to reinforce that there is One West Chicago, made stronger by its diversity.

Participants in a One West Chicago community engagement activity at Blooming Fest will receive a small flower pot set, while quantities last.

Starting with this year’s Blooming Fest, on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., the City of West Chicago booth which will be located on Main Street, will feature a One West Chicago community engagement activity, with the opportunity for participants to earn a prize (while supplies last). The idea for a symbolic garden is timely and appropriate as the West Chicago community collectively seeks the America in Bloom designation through assorted community beautification projects.

Those wishing to participate should stop by the City booth for instructions and supplies. The prize for those completing the activity will be a small flower pot set – which includes one packet of seeds, an expandable soil wafer and a biodegradable flower pot that can be directly planted into a garden or transferred to bigger indoor pots. Quantities are limited, so organizers recommend arriving early. This will be a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to express what they love and enjoy about West Chicago. “This is a great way to engage with our residents, by having them share and reflect on the things that make West Chicago a great community”, said Adrian Marquez, City of West Chicago Community Outreach Specialist.
