Voters in the Bartlett Fire Protection District backed a tax increase Tuesday to avoid service cuts while voters in the Fox Valley Park District rejected a request to raise the limiting rate on property taxes to cover district costs.
Unofficial election results show that approximately 65 percent of those voting in Fox Valley Park District were against raising the limiting rate to cover maintenance and operating costs.
Early precinct reporting showed that in the Bartlett Fire District, voters were willing to accept a tax hike in order to prevent fire service cuts, with approximately 66 percent voting in favor of the proposal.
According to a news article in the Daily Herald, the tax increase in the Bartlett Fire Prevention District could increase an average homeowners yearly payment by $100.
Fire district officials said they would have had to cut the number of first responders for each shift and rotate closures of one of the district's three stations, the the Daily Herald reported.
