Republican Patty Smith is challenging incumbent Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) in November for the 84th State House District.
Both were unopposed in the primary.
Smith announced her candidacy in August, saying she was running for the position “because the broken status quo puts special interests and career politicians first, and our families last," according to an article published on the Chicago Tribune website.

“As a hard working single mother of three, I know firsthand the struggles that middle class families face here in Aurora,” she said in a statement, according to the article. “And as the mother of a young adult with Down syndrome who relies on social services, I understand the need for a state government that works.”
Smith plans to improve the Illinois economy by bringing jobs back to the district and reducing property taxes, according to the article.
“We need a state representative who will work to fix our broken state and stand up to (House Speaker) Mike Madigan,” Smith said. “As an independent voice I will go down to Springfield to do just that.”
