Sen. Chris Nybo (R-Elmhurst) is trying to make it easier for municipalities to make zoning decisions for liquor-serving establishments within their region.

“SB2436 is effectively taking those types of decisions and putting those decisions back in the hand of the local community that should be deciding them, and that is the city of Chicago in this instance,” Nybo said of yet another proposal brought before the Senate for approval.

“There have now been 75 special exemptions that we have written into this statue to account for varying situations,” Nybo said.

But no longer.

“I just see no logic to why the city of Chicago business establishments need to come to this body for zoning issues to get approval that are essentially local zoning issues,” Nybo said, adding he would be happy to answer any questions before the vote.

“Again this goes back to why the governor vetoed one of these proposals earlier this year because this is a solution he is in favor of giving it back to the local community,” Nybo said.

SB2436 passed 48-0 and advanced to the House.
