With three GOP state senators offering endorsements, 49th House District candidate Tonia Khouri feels confident.

Along with the support of more than 20 locally elected officials -- including Kane County Chairman Chris Lauzen and DuPage County GOP Chairman Brian Krajewski -- Khouri has the support of Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove), Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Wheaton) and Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods).

"I am honored by the outpouring of support for my campaign from these leaders,” Khouri, a DuPage County board member, said in a press release. “It is also wonderful to have the support of my senator, Senator Oberweis, and my nested Representative, Keith Wheeler.”

The 49th District candidate looking to replace retiring Rep. Mike Fortner (R-West Chicago), also gained the support of Rep. Margo McDermed (R-Mokena), Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Charleston), Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego), Rep. Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale), Rep. Randy Frese (R-Quincy), Rep. Grant Wehrli (R-Naperville) and Rep. Sheri Jesiel (R-Winthrop Harbor), the release said.

Khouri told the DuPage Policy Journal in a September report that she has never voted for a tax increase, assisting in an overall budget cut of $36.5 million, which has saved taxpayers an estimated $110 million through shared services, joint procurement and consolidation.

Khouri said she looks forward to more support.

“I will be releasing more endorsements in the coming days and week," Khouri said in the release.

The 49th District covers Cook and DuPage counties, St. Charles, St. Charles, South Elgin and West Chicago.
