Property taxes for Glen Ellyn Park District residents will fall for the second year in a row thanks to the retirement of bonds that will see an estimated average decrease of 22 percent on 2017 tax bills.
"I am thrilled that the residents of the Glen Ellyn Park District will pay considerably less in property taxes without a reduction in services or quality," Park Board President Julia Nephew said in a release posted on the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce website. "This could become the norm all over DuPage County if government entities were to follow the leadership and careful financial planning that the Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners, followed through by staff, has carefully developed and implemented over the past six years."
The average tax bill in the Glen Ellyn Park District fell by just over 10 percent this year, making the announced tax cuts all the more rare for DuPage County, according to the release. The retiring bonds were used for the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center.

According to the release, the Park District has managed to achieve a budget that generates more revenue than expenses through six years of careful financial planning and has created and met a fund balance policy.
