Downers Grove South job mentoring program to give students a taste of the real world

Mentor

Downers Grove-area businesses interested in mentoring high school students can contact the Downers Grove South High School (DGS) job-shadowing program, which is currently seeking a variety of professionals, the school said in a release.

The program is set to begin in early 2018, with students applying this December.

The school is expecting significant student interest, and Lavon Robinson, a DGS career counselor, is seeking a wide variety of businesses interested in hosting students. Those who participate will help DGS students understand how their jobs function in the real world and allow them to get practical experience in a career they are interested in, the release said.

DGS noted in its release that students in the program can shadow professionals at any time of day and any day of the week, allowing for flexibility based on the business’ schedule. Students can stay for as little as an hour or for as long as the whole day for the visits, and professionals can plan student visits as they see fit.

Businesses interested in the program can email Robinson at lrobinson@csd.ord or call 630-795-8580.
