A federal grant is helping Wheaton put up more than 750 signs pointing out safe bike routes and directions, according to a press release.
The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant paid for 80 percent of the new signs’ cost, while the city covered the remainder, including paying for crews to handle the signs’ installation.
It’s money well spent, according to city Bicycle Advisory Committee Chair Dan Dhly, who said the signs will leave the city safer for cyclists and motorists.
“We believe the placement of these signs will help bicyclists with finding approved bike routes as well as make motorists aware of bicyclists on the roads,” Dhly said in the release.
The signs are expected to be in place by early December, according to the release.
