A grant program to help fund water-quality improvement projects in DuPage County is accepting applications until Jan. 12, according to a press release from the county’s Stormwater Management Committee.
More than 50 grants, reimbursing up to 25 percent of a project’s expenses, have been awarded over the past two decades, with notable ventures including “permeable paver parking lots, green roofs and native vegetation,” the release said.
Committee Chairman Jim Zay said in the announcement that the local grants often act as seed money, attracting federal dollars to help complete larger projects.

“The amount and scope of projects over the years never ceases to amaze me,” Zay stated in the release. “Not only are these projects improving water quality and reducing localized flooding, they’re also enhancing community aesthetics, boosting the economy and providing health benefits in some cases.”
Groups eligible to apply for grants include homeowners’ associations, city governments, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
