Conroy's opponent calls incumbents blind to Illinoisans' needs

A sales tax on gas that was hidden in the state budget is further evidence that Springfield is out of touch with citizens, Dr. Jay Kinzler told the DuPage Policy Journal.

“It is Springfield having budget problems and not coming to grips that they have a spending problem, not a revenue problem," he said. "They have plenty of revenue coming in from all the tax hikes, but they refuse to deal with the spending issues.

Kinzler said he sees families moving out of state to escape the seemingly never-ending taxes.

“If I get into office, I would basically put caps on taxes," he said. "We would talk about putting caps and actually reducing the property tax."

Kinzler pointed out that some states calculate property tax at 1 percent of home value, but Illinois residents are charged more than twice that amount. Kinzler said he would have it capped at 1 percent.

“I need to get down to Springfield so I can help the families of Illinois, relieve their pain and struggle that is being imposed on them by the ruling classes," he said.

The gas tax came about because of the expiration of a 20 percent sales tax credit that had been given to wholesalers on unleaded fuel with ethanol.

“So that means the cost is going to be passed along to consumers, which is probably going to bring it up 2 to 5 cents a gallon, depending on where you live,” Kinzler said.

He noted that Chicago motorists already pay 44 cents more per gallon than the national average, but the worst part is that the new tax is a sales tax.

“So, actually the money that is going to be accumulated because this credit wasn’t renewed will actually go into the general fund and not to road repairs, and that is a critical point," Kinzler said.

Kinzler is running in District 46 against incumbent Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park). The district includes all or part of Glendale Heights, Carol Stream and Villa Park.
