Glenside FPD responds to 77 fires in 2016

Glenside Fire Protection District responded to 500 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Glenside included 77 fires - 50 structure fires, 10 vehicle fires and 15 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $270,110 in fire loss - or about $3,508 per fire.

The department also received 423 false calls, including 13 malicious calls and 410 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Glenside FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and 18 retired or inactive employees, was $739,196 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,600 for every fire in 2016.
