Oakbrook Terrace FPD responds to five fires in 2016

Oakbrook Terrace Fire Protection District responded to 158 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Oakbrook Terrace included five fires - one structure fire, one vehicle fire and one other fire. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $611,000 in fire loss - or about $122,200 per fire.

The department also received 153 false calls, including four malicious calls and 149 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Oakbrook Terrace Firefighters' Protection District, which has four active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $10,720 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,144 for every fire in 2016.
