Elmhurst residents are being encouraged to go online and answer a five-minute survey regarding airplane noise at night, according to the city's website.
The Chicago Department of Aviation’s Runway Rotation Plan (RRP) test has fueled the increase in sound as it checks the shared impact around O’Hare Airport. Noise has increased by 100 percent at night, the city said.
“The RRP Tests encourage pilots and traffic controllers to use designated nighttime runways,” the website reads. “The tests are analyzed by community feedback, including a heavily weighted survey designed for the RRP.”
This marks the third test of the Fly Quiet Program’s test, which will go on until Oct. 14. Depending on community feedback in the survey, the RRP could become the long-term plan for nighttime runway use.
