A three-pronged government consolidation measure championed by Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) became law on Monday, according to a press release.
Senate Bill 3 is meant to help facilitate consolidation by allowing coterminous township to dissolve, providing a process for consolidation and expanding a DuPage County consolidation model throughout Illinois.
“What we are doing today will allow us to more effectively serve the people we represent,” Olsen said in the press release. “It is a great first step, and I look forward to continuing this bipartisan effort to make government more responsive and cost-effective for the citizens we represent.”
Olsen joined Gov. Bruce Rauner, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and other lawmakers at the signing ceremony.
“There is not a day that goes by when I do not hear from a constituent who is desperate for property tax relief,” Olsen said in the release. “By simplifying the process through which consolidation can occur, unnecessary or duplicative layers of government can be eliminated and the burden on taxpayers can be reduced.”
