Approval of the minutes:

The minutes of the March 9, 2017 meeting were approved as presented.

Report & Recommendation:

Replacement of Squad #404

Discussion:

Chief Vesta reported that the vehicle will be over 90,000 miles when it is replaced. Staff is finding that the SUV’s are lasting longer and do better with maintenance issues than the Crown Vics, so the schedule is being adjusted to push them out further. Ald. Messina asked if the department plans to move to all SUV’s and was advised that is the goal. Chief Vesta stated that they take into account the original purchase price of a vehicle, mileage, body and interior condition, and cost of repairs. He is seeing the SUV’s get the same gas mileage as the smaller sedans and they are lasting longer. He explained that the squads have so much more equipment nowadays with the lights, sirens, radars, and computers. They also provide more height space for taller drivers.

Vote:

Ald. E Wesley made a motion, seconded by Ald. Jakab, to approve the replacement of Police Squad #404 for a vehicle to not exceed $27,224.00. A voice vote was taken with the following results:

Ayes: Ald. Catalano, Jakab, Messina, Sorrentino, E. Wesley & Woods
