College of DuPage trustee candidate Husna Ghani will not be on the April 4 election ballot, the Edgar County Watchdogs reported in Illinois Leaks.

The Education Officers Electoral Board determined that only 36 of the 86 signatures on the Petition for Nomination pages were valid. Because 50 valid signatures of registered in-district voters are required for a candidate to run for the trustee position, the board concluded that Ghani would not be included on the April 4 election ballot.

“For the foregoing reasons, it is the decision of the Electoral Board that, pursuant to 10 ILCS 5/10-8 and 10-15, the Candidate’s name, Husna T. Ghani, should not be printed in the Official April 4, 2017 Election Ballot for the Office of Community College District 502 Trustee (2-year vacancy),” the board wrote in its decision.

Objections to Ghani's candidate petition were filed by Ed Franckowiak of West Chicago and Lori Solyom of Lombard, who noted the discrepancies in the signatures submitted with the nomination pages.

The Edgar County Watchdogs reported on each of the objectors' petitions and the Board Examiner's report as the information became available. The final decision by the Electoral Board validates the objectors' concerns and prevents Ghani from running for trustee.
