The village of Lombard recently announced the opening of applications for its 2017 Youth Leadership Program, where high school students living in the area can learn about local government and public service.
The program, which will accept 10 students, is set to take place at Village Hall in early February. During various sessions, participating students will receive interactive presentations from representatives in the Village Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, Police, Fire and Public Works Departments.
“The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for high school aged Lombard students to learn about the inner workings of their local government,” Community Relations Chair and Lombard Trustee Robyn Pike said in a press release. “It also allows students to see how each department works together to get things done. This is a fun experience, a great way to learn about the village, and it could also be a helpful addition to college resumes.”
After the program, students can keep in touch with the staff they interact with at the sessions; these staff will serve as future mentors as students head to college and transition into the workforce.
