State Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park) has reason to acquiesce to House Speaker Mike Madigan’s influence, the Illinois GOP suggested recently, because he “funneled over $1.2 million into (her) campaign accounts,” the party said via its BossMadigan.com website.

Voting to retain Madigan as speaker at every opportunity, Conroy also drew a distinct line when it came to the controversial legislator-paycheck issue, siding with Madigan in the belief that they and their colleagues ought to be paid, even in the absence of a state budget.

“Illinois’ future is being blocked by Mike Madigan,” the BossMadigan.com website said, responding to what it terms “45 years of failure” in Illinois legislative leadership under the Chicago politician.

High property taxes, the nation's worst state pension fiasco and through-the-roof tax hikes are some of the items cited on the website. The Illinois Republican Party said it’s time to choose between Madigan and his cronies, and the people.

“It’s no wonder Madigan and Conroy are refusing to pass a balanced budget alongside good government reforms,” Republicans said via the site. “They already made sure they get paid, even if schools and social services suffer. Time for Conroy to break away from Madigan.”
