The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Village of Downers Grove a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
"The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management," GFOA said in a statement.
Before the award is given, an impartial panel of judges reviews each entity’s financial records "in the spirit of full disclosure." Downers Grove's CAFR was noted as the main factor in urging potential users to read the document, thanks to its clear organization and professional presentation.
All detailed, audited financial activity among village departments is recorded in the CAFR. The document is published within six months of the fiscal year's closing date.
Finance Director Judy Buttny heads the village's financial team.
