COMMUNITY SERVICES UPDATE - MARY KEATING Mary Keating clarified that item 6.A.3., the Authorization of Applications for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, is for the Community Services Department's Minutes Health & Human Services September 20, 2016 DuPage County Page 8 housing resource unit to apply for funds which provide staff support to assist individuals with various housing related needs, including tenant/landlord disputes and shared housing, Every CDBG application requires CDBG Board authorization, whether it is a nonprofit, a municipality, or the County itself. The letters of intent for the CDBG program applications were due the first week of September. There were 12 neighborhood municipal investment applications totaling over 3.3 million dollars, and several million dollars in requests from the public service or the nonprofit agencies. The actual applications will be submitted in October for staff review and recommendations will be forwarded to the Community Development Commission for approval. The 3.2 million dollar annual award from the Community Development Block Grant will be distributed as follows; approximately 20% for administrative costs, and 15% for public services, which are operating funds for nonprofit organizations. The remaining 65% of the funds will be designated for capital projects, which will be split between municipal projects for neighborhood improvements, and capital projects for nonprofit organizations, such as acquisitions or rehabilitation of properties. 13. CONVALESCENT CENTER UPDATE - JENNIFER ULMER Jennifer Ulmer, Administrator of the DuPage Convalescent Center, stated that she and Mary Keating are working on an initiative with Kara Murphy, Executive Director of the DuPage Health Coalition. The DuPage Convalescent Center will partner with the Coalition for the Dispensary of Hope program, which is a drug dispensary that obtains surplus drugs from manufacturers and distributes them to nonprofit agencies to dispense to uninsured individuals. The Dispensary of Hope is from Nashville, Tennessee, and has several dispensary sites in Illinois. This partnership will be budget neutral for the Convalescent Center and have the potential to bring additional revenue to the Convalescent Center outpatient pharmacy, but the main emphasis is to be a good community partner and fulfill a community need. 14.
