Bloomingdale's Seth Lewis, a Republican candidate for state Senate District 23, recently made it clear that he stands for common people first by urging his opponent, state Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) to publicly renounce House Speaker Mike Madigan's lawsuit regarding the Independent Map Amendment.
"(As an) independent voice for the 23rd District,” Lewis said. “I am going to Springfield to stand up to anyone who does not put the people of this state first."
Madigan (D-Chicago) has brought a lawsuit against the Independent Map Amendment. His goal is to stop the amendment. He has joined with Mike Kasper, the leading lawyer for the Democratic Party of Illinois, in an attempt to sue the amendment’s sponsors to stop people from voting for the amendment this fall.
The amendment has gained approval from over 500,000 citizens of Illinois. It has also gained certification of approval from the State Board of Elections to appear on the ballot this November.
“It’s time for Tom Cullerton to publicly disavow the lawsuit being brought against the Independent Map Amendment by his party’s leadership,” Lewis said. “Cullerton can’t credibly claim to support independent maps while his party’s leadership are the very people suing to stop them. We need independent leadership in the 23rd District, not someone who remains silent when party bosses expect it.”
