The Lombard Village Board recently approved an economic incentive agreement that will support the establishment of a Mariano’s grocery store location on Roosevelt and Finley roads.
The 74,000-square-foot store will be in a former Kmart location. As part of the deal, Mariano's receives a rebate on property and sales taxes earned during the development period. The rebate will cover the costs of dismantling the former building and addressing engineering issues at the site.
“The village is excited to be able to use our Incentive Agreement Policy to bring this major project to Lombard,” Village President Keith Giagnorio said. “The project will create jobs, strengthen our commercial sector and will help serve as a catalyst for future economic development activity.
The village also will complete road work to improve left turns along Finley Road, as well as Roosevelt Road. Construction costs are estimated to be $25.5 million.
“A Mariano’s on the Roosevelt Road corridor will create a new market niche that will serve residents and commuters with an opportunity to purchase groceries, food and fuel they might have purchased elsewhere,” District 2 Trustee Mike Fugiel said. “The village board and I are very excited to have this addition to the community.”
