Due to a drop in energy prices, the city of Elmhurst is recommending citizens switch over to Commonwealth Edison Co. (ComEd) to lower their electric bills.
Under its Electric Aggregation Program, the city had entered into a three-year agreement with Constellation Energy Services in 2014. The Electric Aggregation Program enables municipalities to negotiate rates for residents' home electric bills. The pact with Constellation Energy Services fixes rates at 7.51 cents per kWh until August 2017. Included in the rate is a 50 percent Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) component.
Since 2014, the pricing of many commodities, such as gasoline, has decreased. This has had an impact on electricity pricing. ComEd recently revised its pricing. From June to September, ComEd’s rate is set at 06.19 cents per kWh and the utility rate from October through May 2017 is 6.308.
Due to this decrease in ComEd's rates, which go into effect this month, the city recommends residents and small businesses who are part of the city’s aggregation agreement with Constellation Energy Services switch back to ComEd to reduce the cost of the energy supply portion of the bill. Residents can switch back to ComEd by calling Constellation at 844-309-6307 and having their electricity account number available at the time of the call.
