Holan voices opposition to mileage tax plan

Fuel

Heidi Holan, a Republican candidate for House District 46 in Villa Park, Illinois, released a statement criticizing recent tax hike proposals.

Illinois House President John Cullerton and Sen. Heather Steans each proposed regulations that would increase taxes. Cullerton introduced the Automotive Mileage Tax (S.B. 3267) while Steans proposed the 30 Cent Per Gallon Tax Hike (S.B. 3279).

“What is your choice - a 30-cent per gallon gas tax hike, a fee charged for the number of miles you drive or a 50 percent increase to your vehicle registration fee?” Holan said. “I say, how about none of the above?”

Holan stated that the taxes in Illinois are already too high.

“Illinois has some of the highest fuel taxes in the nation, yet this week Democratic legislators introduced bills that want to guzzle up more of our hard-earned dollars,” Holan said. “I will ignore the flimsy branding efforts of (House) Speaker (Mike) Madigan and his caucus who claim certain bills are 'non-budgetary items.'”

Holan ended with a call to action that is specific to Madigan.

“Mr. Madigan, if you really want to best support Illinois families and businesses, then lead the legislature into passing bills that reduce our expenses!” Holan said.

Holan, the Illinois state coordinator for ParentalRights.org, is a 32-year resident of Glen Ellyn.  Before becoming active in politics, she was a housewife who helped her husband run their family-owned small business and educate both of her sons. Her goal is to improve the transparency and integrity of Illinois public officials.
