Lombard Police find credit card skimming machine at local gas station

Credit card

The Lombard Police Department discovered a credit card skimming machine at the Shell gas station in the Village of Lombard, Illinois at the intersection of North Avenue and Route 53.

The department is encouraging the station’s customers to check their recent card activity to ensure that they were not a victim of the skimmer, which was discovered after a call tipped the department off. The department discovered the skimmer upon further investigation and immediately removed it. The department is still searching for the person or persons who placed the skimmer, which was the only one installed at the station, and is still investigating how long it was in operation.

“If you used a credit card to pay at the pump at this location, don’t wait for your monthly statement to arrive before confirming your financial standings,”  Lombard Detective Lieutenant Cyndy Velazquez said. “We want to get the word out so that residents can check with their credit card company as soon as possible, to help ensure protection.”

Those with any information on the skimmer or with any questions about the case can contact the Lombard Police Department at 255 E. Wilson Ave., Lombard.
