Oak Brook board of trustees discuss policies regarding village-issued vehicles

Police

The policies and practices regarding the use of village vehicles and vehicle allowances were discussed at the Oak Brook board of trustees meeting Feb. 23.

Don Adler updated the board on the details of the vehicles, allowances and policies, and in general, staff who have use of a village vehicle must respond to calls at all hours.

Village vehicles are provided to the police chief, deputy police chief, canine officer, fire chief and public works director.

In addition, the village manager receives a vehicle allowance to compensate for business use of a personal vehicle, and two Public Works foremen take home village vehicles when snow plowing is anticipated. The police detective that is on-duty also takes home a vehicle.

The use of a village vehicle or vehicle allowance is included in the village manager's, police chief's and fire chief's contracts.

The board also reviewed and discussed a resolution approving the agreement between the village and the Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council. The union and the village have been in negotiations since early 2015, with the agreement extending from Jan. 1, 2015, to Dec. 31, 2017.

It also reviewed a resolution regarding the rules of public comment and participation at public meetings.
