As road construction for the Illinois 31 Improvement Project gets underway Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that intermittent lane closures will take place.
Illinois 31 will experience temporary lane closures in both directions near the intersections at Silver Glen Road.
The improvement project, which includes road resurfacing and widening, storm sewer construction and a new traffic signal, is scheduled to be completed this summer.
The additions of a left turn lane from northbound Illinois 31 to Silver Glen Road and a right turn lane from southbound Illinois 31 to Silver Glen Road are also part of the improvement plan.
The IDOT warns motorists to expect delays and seek alternate routes when these closures are in effect.
In the interest of safety, drivers are always urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers, equipment and changing conditions.
