In order to connect residents with the Public Works crews that service their roads, Lombard is launching a new educational series entitled “Get to Know Your Snow Plow Driver.”
There are more than 150 miles of roads within the boundaries of Lombard, and keeping them free of snow and ice can be a daunting task.
Lombard’s snow plow drivers work up to 12 hour shifts at a time and are often called away from their families on nights, weekends and holidays to keep the roads safe.
“It’s important for our residents to know about what we do here at the village and about the efforts of the people doing it,” Carl Goldsmith, Lombard’s Public Works director, said. “We want to give residents the opportunity to learn a little bit about our dedicated employees in order to help people better understand that we’re here to help. Snow storms can be stressful and frustrating to residents, but our employees are working hard to make it easier and safer to use roads – no matter what time of year.”
The series, which can be found at www.villageoflombard.org/myplowdriver, identifies the drivers for each route within the village and features photos and interesting facts about members of the crew. The site also features many important road safety tips.
