The Homeland Security Training Institute (HSTI) at the College of DuPage is offering a free program that focuses on the protection of “soft targets” for terrorism 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. March 22 at the COD Homeland Security Education Center.
Soft targets are classified as venues that attract large groups of people on a regular basis, such as sports arenas, schools, shopping malls, movie theaters, concerts and amusement parks.
“Since the events of Sept. 11, 2001, great efforts have been made to fortify hard targets in the United States, such as government facilities, military installations and transportation systems,” Tom Brady, HSTI Director, said. “This course is an outstanding opportunity for business owners, security firms, first responder units and school administrators to learn how to keep their properties safe from terrorist groups who have demonstrated a complete lack of disregard for human life.”
Instructors for the one-day session will be Dr. Mike Fagel and Dr. Jennifer Hesterman, both well-known anti-terrorism experts.
The program is funded through a grant from Motorola Solutions Inc. The class will be streamed live over the Internet via Eventbrite.
