Elmhurst Public Works and Buildings Committee fielded complaints from residents about rising garbage-service rates and stormwater issues during its regular meeting this week.
One resident concerned about garbage-collection rates asked whether there was a procedure for opting out of the service. Another resident asked for an update on the potential for stormwater-flow improvements for the Saylor/Swain/Vallette area, and one resident asked about the inundation map for the Crescent/Cambridge region.
In addition to public comments, the meeting’s agenda included a general report on stormwater projects throughout the city. Committee staff pledged to provide information on conceptual stormwater infrastructure improvements at the committee’s next meeting.
The committee also discussed the proposed intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the City of Elmhurst and the Elmhurst Park District for the construction, operation and maintenance of stormwater and other improvements at Golden Meadows Park. A draft IGA will be provided for review as a separate agenda item at the next meeting.
The agenda also included a discussion of the annual rate adjustment for garbage and recycling services. The committee reviewed the change in Elmhurst’s administration rates, as it was proposed to be a “flat” rate for different-size containers.
