Citing the new law passed in July (Public Act 098-0939) regarding the expiration of certification cards for Illinois Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET), the Bloomingdale Police Department is reminding the local business community about the need for renewal of BASSET certification every three years for anyone selling or serving alcohol, and has launched a new training program and renewal process for business owners.
As a result of the new law, all BASSET certifications that were obtained prior to July 2012 are now considered expired and must be renewed by completing a training course online or in a classroom setting.
The Bloomingdale Police Department will offer a responsible alcohol seller and server training seminar 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday at its offices, 201 S. Bloomingdale Road. The department requests that all establishments selling or serving alcohol thoroughly check their records to identify employees in need of training and certification.
Reservations can be made by calling the Police Department Records Division at 630-529-9868. There is a $40 non-refundable fee for all attendees, excluding nonprofit-organization attendees. Checks should be made out to the Village of Bloomingdale.
Section 4-2-9 of the Bloomingdale Village Code requires all employees who sell, serve, pour and handle alcoholic beverages to complete a liquor-control training seminar, including all bartenders, waiters, waitresses, clerks and retailers. To maintain compliance, all employees must successfully complete either an online class or attend an in-house responsible-service training seminar within ninety 90 days of employment and that copies of their certificates be kept on file on the premises. Any new manager who has not completed a classroom Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) BASSET seller/server training course within the prior 12 months must complete BASSET seller/server training from the Bloomingdale Police Department at the first available training session. To ensure continued compliance with the Liquor Code, the Bloomingdale Police Department will conduct spot checks of employees throughout the year in liquor establishments. Additionally, all establishments holding a liquor license are reminded to ensure that their employees routinely check for proper identification to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors.
