The Downers Grove Village Council recently approved an Aggregate Tax Levy to fund items that are part of the 2016 budget that was approved in November.
The village works to balance operational expenses with resources to address prioritized needs of the community. To that end, the 2016 budget includes a Long Range Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and a list of prioritized action items created by the council.
The budget was developed during a time of financial uncertainty, with the state budget impasse lingering. The village's 2016 budget struggled to maintain services, with revenue struggling to keep up with expenses, but provides for a balanced General Fund, no increase in property taxes, a 19.5 percent increase in public safety (police and fire) pensions, and infrastructure improvements for road, sewer and water needs.
