U.S. Rep. Bill Foster (D-Dist. 11) recently met up with Aurora officials and Pace Suburban Bus Service executives to ride the transit service's new Route 530.
Joining Foster on the ride, which connects the West Side of Aurora with the Naperville Metra Station, were Pace Executive Director T.J. Ross and Jeffery Schielke, mayor of Batavia and a member of the Pace Board of Directors.
The quality and efficiency of Pace are of particular interest to Foster, as the company's buses make over 13,000 trips throughout his 11th District each week.
“Accessible and easy-to-use public transportation is essential in our community,” Foster said. “Thousands of people in the 11th District rely on public transportation like the Pace bus service to provide safe, reliable public transportation for working families.”
The public tour is timely, as the U.S. House recently passed a six-year transportation-funding bill -- currently being reconciled with the Senate version ahead of expected final approval on Friday -- to continue funding mass-transit and highway infrastructure projects.
“We appreciate Congressman Foster’s support for Pace as the federal transportation bill continues to progress,” Ross said. “The bill provides funding that is absolutely essential for us to not only replace older buses in our fleet, but to expand the fleet to meet the growing and changing transportation needs of Chicago’s suburbs.”
