The Village of Downers Grove released a draft report with guidance on bolstering the number of properties that are designated as historical landmarks, thereby avoiding the loss of buildings that are architecturally significant to the community.
The report was done by the Architectural Design Review Board (ADRB) and the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Historic Preservation.
Since its inception last July, the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Historic Preservation has met with the ADRB at least twice per month and is working toward its mission to develop, review and present recommendations for increasing the number of landmarked properties or districts under the Historic Preservation Ordinance by the end of this month.
The report includes details and methodology that were used to prepare an amended Historic Preservation Ordinance, improve public awareness of the effort and develop incentives to encourage property owners to weigh in on the landmarking process.
