College of DuPage Board Retains New Legal Counsel, Forensic Accountant

The College of DuPage Board voted to retain new legal counsel to represent the board and the College, as well as to retain the services of a forensic accountant, at their June 11th board meeting.

The firms of Rathje & Woodward of Wheaton and Schuyler Roche & Crisham of Chicago were retained for up to four months of service to the Board and the College.

They replace legal council that had represented those entities during the Breuder era. “These are two law firms with impeccable records, and I’m certain that they will provide excellent legal service to this Board and to the College of DuPage,” Hamilton said.

These moves to secure new legal council come in the wake of a federal grand jury subpoena related to the College’s business dealings with two of the law firms that had previously represented the school. The Board also moved to retain a forensic accountant to conduct its own internal investigation into improprieties at the College of DuPage.

“Over the last year, we’ve seen and heard numerous stories of shady conduct, questionable spending, and improper behavior by officials at the College of DuPage,” added Hamilton. “I believe it is the duty of this Board to seek answers as to the extent of this malfeasance, and to ensure that any wrongdoing is discovered and that people are held accountable. All of these matters passed the Board by a vote of 4-3.
