The Naperville Police Department took part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, giving residents the chance to bring unused and unwanted prescription medications to the front lobby of the police department at 1350 Aurora Ave.
Prescription drug drop boxes are also available for residents to safely and anonymously dispose of prescription medications in all 10 of Naperville’s fire stations on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis.
“In recent years, one of the police department major initiatives has been to curb the abuse of drugs, including prescription drugs, in the community,” Naperville Police Chief Robert Marshall said. “Often, prescription medications act as gateway drugs to other forms of drug abuse. This program gives residents a great opportunity to rid their homes of these potentially dangerous drugs and learn more about the risk of abuse.”
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
