Downers Grove wants residents to be prepared for emergencies

Dg

The Village of Downers Grove is calling on residents to be self-sufficient and prepared during times of emergencies.

"Preparedness is a shared responsibility and it takes a whole community," Mary Pratt, village emergency management coordinator, said. "All households are advised to prepare for an event that may include the loss of electricity, water service and access to a supermarket or local services for a few days."

Preparedness videos are available on the village's YouTube site. Also, the village recommends residents put together a kit consisting of three-days of water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, prescriptions flashlight and a battery-powered radio. If residents own a pet, remember they should include pet food and supplies in their kit.

Additionally, residents should put together a plan where two locations are designated to meet in case it is impossible to return home and an out-of-area contact person should be designated.

Residents of the Park District elect a non-partisan, five-member board of commissioners to govern the district. The Park Board determines the priorities and defines policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the Park District. Board members are elected to serve unsalaried, overlapping four-year terms.

Working on behalf of residents are the five elected members of the Board of Park Commissioners. The board sets the priorities and defines the policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the district.
