Jon Stewart, Sen. Kirk push Congress to pass 9/11 compensation bill.
U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) on Wednesday joined U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and former host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, to urge Congress to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act.
The act would ensure uninterrupted access to critical healthcare and financial programs for the thousands of 9/11 volunteers.
“The volunteers who went to the attack sites after 9/11 to help their fellow Americans are the best of the best, and we cannot turn our backs on our heroes,” Kirk said. “One hundred seventy Illinoisans risked their lives to help our nation rebuild, and supporting our heroes is a bipartisan cause we can all support. I thank my colleagues and Jon Stewart for helping to champion this effort.”
The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act would:continue the World Trade Center Health Program. The World Trade Center Health Program would continue to provide medical monitoring for 9/11-related illnesses for over 63,000 9/11 first responders and treatment for over 7,800 injured 9/11 survivors.
Over 33,000 of these responders and survivors have at least one or more medical conditions as a result of their 9/11 exposure.
