The city of Aurora said Sept. 9 that the International Code Council (ICC) has recognized the city's Building and Permits Division as part of its 2015 Everyone Certified Campaign.
The campaign, sponsored by the ICC and Target, encourages building inspection employees in municipalities from around the world to train and earn certifications in the International Building Code.
Aurora was one of the first two building departments in the state of Illinois to have 100 percent certified staff in 2013. The department's 19 staff members have a total 48 ICC certifications and eight licenses from the state of Illinois.
"Fully trained and certified staff ensure that we are sending highly competent personnel, invested in newest technologies and forthcoming code changes, out into the field," Building and Permits Director John Curley said. "With this high level of training, our staff is proud to assist architects, builders and owners in learning about all of the available options that best suit their projects while complying with code, ensuring the safety of Aurora residents."
Municipalities in which 100 percent of inspections staff have earned at least one ICC certification are recognized and then entered into a drawing to win $1,100 in additional training credits for ICC classes. Aurora's team won the drawing in the 150,000 and over population category.
