The DuPage County Health Department recently reported the first human case of West Nile Virus for 2015.
The case involved a 50-year-old woman from Carol Stream, Illinois who was briefly hospitalized but fully recovered from the virus.
Current weather conditions remain conducive for the breeding of West Nile Virus-carrying mosquitoes, which have prompted county health officials to encourage residents to stay apprised of the risk factors.
Residents are reminded to avoid going outside from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are more likely to bite. If you must go outside, use insect repellent containing DEET, and wear light-colored long sleeves and pants.
If sleeping outdoors, use mosquito netting. Also, make sure all door and window screens are tight fitting to keep mosquitoes out of residences; and remove all standing water from outside the home to avoid attracting mosquitoes.
