Saturday's 7th Heaven concert in Lombard relocated.
The City of Lombard has announced that the 7th Heaven concert, scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m., will be relocated to the south side of the railroad tracks, near the Metra pedestrian tunnel.
The relocation is due to police concerns over pedestrian safety issues.
During an American English concert held July 25, the concert location reached maximum capacity. Large crowds and record amounts of attendees raised concerns about future concerts in the same area of S. Park, between St. Charles and the train tracks.
Lombard staff, police and public works considered alternative locations in the downtown area for the event. Several of the alternatives involved closing a portion of St. Charles Road. The location of Parkside Ave., along Lilacia Park, provides a large amount of space to concert attendees and avoids the closure of major roads.
The Metra Underpass Tunnel allows for easy access from the north to the south side of the train tracks, and will provide those in attendance with a convenient access between the concert, and Cruise Night cars. Event goers may use the two hour street parking which expires at 6 p.m. (visitors may park at 4 p.m.), library parking (after 5 p.m.) and handicapped parking will be available in the church lot at the corner of S. Park and Parkside.
Lombard hosts summer concerts during Cruise Night events on Saturdays throughout the summer months.
The band will play from 7 to 9 p.m.; Cruise Nights runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
