Downers Grove reviews warning siren activation delays

The village of Downers Grove said Thursday it has completed its review of the delay in activation of the village’s outdoor warning sirens.

The sirens initially failed Tuesday after several attempts were made to activate them.

The village contacted the vendor in response to the failure, and the vendor was able to activate the sirens remotely.

Fulton Technologies, the vendor for the sirens and related equipment, said the initial failed attempt to activate the outdoor warning sirens was caused by a loss of the primary and backup power supply to the radio that activates the sirens.

The village has taken steps that includes immediate notifications to key village staff of a primary power supply failure, backup power supply failure and other system failure to improve the warning system.

The village tests the sirens on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. The sirens were successfully activated on the Aug. 4 test.
