Lombard accepting nominations for Senior of the Year

Lombard

The village of Lombard is seeking nominations for the 10th annual Senior of the Year awards celebrating the accomplishments of senior citizens in the village.

The Senior Man and Senior Women of the Year awards will be presented at the village’s Senior Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lombard Community Building at Lombard Common Park.

“We’re asking Lombard residents to honor local senior citizens by nominating them for senior of the year,” Village President Keith Giagnorio said. “We want to say thank you to our seniors for their dedication to the village.”

Nominees must have a Lombard home mailing address and be 65 or older. Nominations must include a brief statement, 50 words or less, on why the senior should be considered for the award, as well as a short biography of the nominee.

The winners will be selected by the village’s Community Relations Committee and receive the Village President’s Award along with a gift certificate to a local restaurant. The Senior of the Year award winner will also be honored by riding in the 2016 Lilac Parade.

The nomination deadline is Sept. 9.

Nominations may be sent to: Village of Lombard, Village Manager’s Office, Attn:: Senior of the Year Award, 255 E. Wilson Ave., Lombard, IL 60148. Email nominations will be accepted at meadea@villageoflombard.org.

The award was founded by the late former Village President William “Bill” Mueller, together with the village’s Community Relations Committee.
